The City of Hope Worship Center is a ministry born from faith, vision, and an unwavering belief that God can build something extraordinary from the simplest beginnings. In April 2025, what would eventually become The City of Hope Worship Center began as an online Bible study group. Gathering virtually, people from different backgrounds came together to study God's Word, encourage one another, and grow in their faith. What started as a small digital gathering quickly became a thriving spiritual community. As attendance continued to grow and lives were being transformed, it became clear that God was calling this fellowship to become something greater.
Led by Reverend Marcus Tolliver, the vision expanded beyond online gatherings to the establishment of a physical ministry presence within the community. After months of prayer, planning, and trusting God's direction, the ministry secured its first worship facility. On June 22, 2025, The City of Hope Worship Center officially moved into Carmel Presbyterian Church, located at 134 Walnut Street in Chester, South Carolina. The move represented a significant milestone in the ministry's journey. What had begun online was now gathering face-to-face for worship, discipleship, fellowship, and community outreach. The church experienced remarkable growth as people from throughout the region connected with the vision of a church committed to loving God, loving people, and sharing hope. As the congregation continued to expand, it soon became evident that the ministry had outgrown its first facility. Through God's provision and continued growth, a new opportunity emerged. On Easter Sunday, April 1, 2026, The City of Hope Worship Center celebrated another historic moment by relocating to the former Purity Presbyterian Church sanctuary at 135 Wylie Street in Chester, South Carolina. This new worship center provided not only a larger space for ministry but also a renewed sense of possibility for the future. With a seating capacity of approximately 400 people, the facility positioned the church to continue serving a growing congregation while expanding its impact throughout Chester and the surrounding communities.
Today, The City of Hope Worship Center stands as a testament to what God can accomplish when people are willing to follow His vision. From an online Bible study to a growing congregation with a permanent ministry home, every step of the journey has been marked by faith, perseverance, and God's faithfulness. Yet, the story is still being written. As The City of Hope Worship Center looks toward the future, the vision continues to expand. The ministry has set its sights on constructing a 1,000-seat sanctuary that will serve as a center for worship, discipleship, community engagement, and regional impact for generations to come. This vision reflects the church's commitment to reaching more people, developing stronger families, empowering future leaders, and creating a lasting legacy of hope.
At its core, The City of Hope Worship Center remains dedicated to its founding mission: introducing people to Jesus Christ, helping believers grow in their faith, and serving as a beacon of hope in the community. Whether you are exploring faith for the first time, seeking a church home, or looking for a place to grow spiritually, you are welcome here. Our journey began with a Bible study. Today, it is a growing movement of faith, hope, and transformation. And by God's grace, the best is yet to come.
